History
Marubeni Corporation is a pioneer in Japan's PE industry, engaging in the sponsoring and the operation of buyout investment funds since 1997. iSigma Capital (ISC) was established to further sharpen and utilize the skillsets accumulated by Marubeni with more flexibility and efficiency.
1997 |
- Advantage Partners and Marubeni jointly launched the first buyout investment fund in Japan, MBI Fund I
- Marubeni sponsored Advantage Partners in its launch of MBI fund I acting as a co-GP and also as a core LP.

2000 |
- AP and Marubeni jointly launched MBI Fund II
- Marubeni launched Marubeni Venture Capital Fund I
- iSigma Capital (the Company) was established (100% subsidiary of Marubeni)

2003 |
- The former UFJ Bank, etc. and Marubeni jointly launched Synergy Capital, a corporate turnaround fund.
- AP and Marubeni jointly launched MBI Fund III

2004 |
- China International Trust and Investment Corp. (CITIC), Sumitomo Trust & Banking, Shinsei Bank and Marubeni jointly launched "CITIC Japan Partners" (approx. 17 billion yen), a leveraged buyout investment fund that supports Japanese companies entering and expanding to China
- Established iSigma Tokyo Venture Fund I
- A venture capital fund mainly sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government which aim is to provide risk capital and support the growth of early stage firms.

- Transferred buyout investment fund-related management operations from Marubeni to the Company
- Becomes Marubeni Group's sole and core PE business entity.
